Wolfe Hunt Season is Underway

Press Releases - July 30, 2010

The celebration of Wolfeboro’s 250th Anniversary continues with the ongoing ‘Wolfe Hunt,’ which began in July. The playful expedition sends ‘hunters’ into participating Wolfeboro businesses to spot the official Anniversary logo. Fun game hunters who find a minimum of 15 Anniversary logos are entered in a drawing for a chance to win one of many prizes. The Hunt is on through October 11, 2010.

To participate in the Wolfe hunt a contest card is needed. Contest cards may be picked up at the Wolfeboro Area Chamber of Commerce Information Center, located in the former railroad station on Railroad Avenue in Wolfeboro. Each card comes with a free commemorative Anniversary decal. Completed Wolfe Hunt cards must be returned to the Information Center to be entered in the drawing. Each month until October, five cards are drawn. Prizes commemorate the 250th Anniversary and  are t-shirts, a flag, a pewter ornament, a hat, and a jute bag. The History of Wolfeboro, a two-night stay at The Wolfeboro Inn and a copy of Wolfeboro’s 250th Anniversary commemorative book will also be won. On October 11 the grand prize will be drawn, which is a one week stay at Windrifter Resort. Winners will be notified by telephone.

Wolfeboro was named in November 1759 for British General James Wolfe just two months after his victory in the Battle of Quebec. This battle turned the tide in the French and Indian War. Wolfe never knew there was a town named for him because he died from wounds sustained in that battle.

Recognizing the importance of the anniversary, the Town of Wolfeboro appointed a committee to present various events which began in November 2009 and a closing reception is planned for November 14, 2010. Additional events include Colonial Homecoming Days Encampment on Brewster Field from August 20-22, with an opening reception in Pinckney Boathouse on August 20, and the Colonial Gala on October 10. All events are open to the public. For more information on this and other upcoming Anniversary events call 569-8161.
